And here’s an update to the update: Borel was supposed to ride impressive maiden winner Almost Famous for trainer Pat Byrne in Sunday’s $60,000 Street Sense overnight stakes for 2-year-olds on Churchill Downs’ opening card. Joe Rocco Jr., who continues to establish himself as a go-to rider at Keeneland and Churchill in his first full year adding those tracks to his circuit, picks up the mount.

“Joe Rocco is subbing for Calvin,” Byrne said. “If Calvin is healthy and back riding by the Kentucky Jockey Club, he rides the horse back. I’m not going to take him off. He’s worked the colt twice and he’s really high on him. Hopefully we make it that far. The horse is doing super duper.”

Almost Famous has attracted a lot of attention in the Wynn Las Vegas future book, dropping to 75-1 for Kentucky Derby 2014.

Rocco last Saturday picked up the mount at the last minute on California shipper Madame Cactus to win the Grade II Raven Run at Keeneland. Madame Cactus was No. 16 and needed to two scratches on race day in order to run. Rocco was available to ride because his own mount scratched that morning.
